One thing that college students and Mormon highschoolers have in common is the habit to shake peoples hands. I'm gonna extrapolate that all Mormon highschoolers have a love for shaking peoples hands because I knew a single Mormon guy from highschool who just loved to do that. Anyways, that's apparently weird because I met up with my friends a few months ago and when I tried to shake someone's hand in greeting, they laughed at me. So the story always goes like this, you or someone is placed in an area near the general vicinity of yourself and one or both of the subjects notice each other. One person sees the other and doesn’t think that the other person is a sociopathic infant killer so they start. A reliable starting play is the generic: “my name is xxx what's your name?” but recent creatives have thought of other novel starting plays. The other person would either turn to create eye contact or continue maintaining eye contact (if the starter isn't a sociopath) and respond to the starter's question. Now comes a fork in the road. Either the pair shakes during the responders response or they delay the handshake until the conversation cannot flow freely anymore and the pair departs, leaving with a “well, nice meeting you xxx.” As to how the pair decides which path to go down, I do not know. Anyways, that part is not the topic of this writing. If we zoom in and skip back to right when the pair is about to shake (either before the conversation or at the end), a question can be asked that can puzzle both in the pair. Who is the one initiating the handshake? You might want to assume that it is the initial initiator who is the one initiating the handshake, them being the person who decided to suddenly posture their right or left shoulder and arm in a sudden motion to signify an incoming handshake, but that cannot be said for certain. As after numerous handshakes in my 3 semesters in schools where people like to shake peoples hands, I can only identify probably 3 times where I could definitely tell that I or the other person was 100% the handshake initiator. Any other time is a blur. Maybe that’s because we humans aren’t intended by whatever god above to think about who was the handshake initiator in that handshake which we were in 25 minutes ago, and I think that's ought to change. We need to kill god. We need to figure out who in the pair is the one initiating the handshakes. As to why we should do that? I refer you to a complex philosophical idea: shake the hand that shakes you.
