Rainy weather has got to be my favorite weather. it's currently pouring outside according to the taps on my window so I feel educated enough to write about it. The sound of rain is so therapeutic. I really don’t like listening to artificial rain sounds online because it feels so wrong. It’s not raining yet I am listening to the sound of it. So criminal. Another thing is that artifical rain sounds lack this dimensionality which real rain sounds have. Real rain sounds are such a treat. They remind me of the sound that ripping expensive paper makes (also paper towels too). The kind of paper where the ripped stray fibers reach out across the gorge in an attempt to maintain contact with the other half of the paper. Like cheese pizza. Natural rain sounds are deep yet have a satisfying pop. And when you're indoors you are delighted with a symphony of taps, ranging in feel. The sound of the droplets against the concrete, with their iconic sweet pop, the sound of the rain against your windows, bringing a bassier complexion to the song, all in conjunction with the sound of the massier droplets from the roof runoff (which varies depending on roof geometry. I would assume for some people it’d be like having a miniature waterfall outside) which for my roof, adds a small but lovely splish to the band. I really like it when the rain clouds decide to just drop a trillion droplets at once. Whenever that happens, it reminds me of ripping really thick brown construction paper. I also love the view during the rain as well, especially during the night with only the soft warm glow of the streetlamp outside. Currently, half of my window is a glossy, moving mosaic of warm light. The other half, a beautiful mess of warm pixelated vines (due to my windows mesh screen). The rain also makes the streets appear so fresh. I love the row of yellow reflections on the street which only decides to appear when it rains. So in conclusion, I love rain but I don’t know if I would want more rain. A few weeks more would be nice. I don’t mind being in the rain but I think if it rained here like Florida I would get sick of it. It's sorta like snow where the tourists are all over it but the locals just want to leave their driveway. Since I'm in socal, rain is a novelty and I kind of like it like that.
