I recently inherited a lamp from my late grandpa (I took it from his room cause it was just gathering dust) and I think that it is designed beautifully. Its lines are incredibly sleek and it feels incredibly premium and weighty (unheard of nowadays). The primary gimmick of this lamp is this interesting gear counterbalance system where you have these 2 heavy ass knobs which act against each other through a series of meshed gears that controls the height of the arm. Problem is, the gears on my lamp are stripped. I don’t know if that was because my gramps just liked to fiddle with it a lot or the gears are just made of a soft metal. For now I'm just using a rubber band to wrap the 2 knobs together to hold the arm up. Anyways, one thing that I don’t like about this lamp is that it only accepts this particular halogen lamp and I havent found a dimmer replacement yet. The thing about halogen lamps is that they are incredibly bright and have a very true tone (it won't warp the color of whatever lighting up) so in a dim room, it lights the entire place up like a home depot. I’m not a fan of that because I don’t use my bedroom as an electronics workplace and I try to keep all the lights in the room quaint and cozy. Hopefully I can find an incandescent light or something that will fit its socket. Another thing about this lamp is that for the life of me, I cannot find its designer. This is one of those designs that have been reproduced and reproduced without a designer attributed so it really annoys me because this table lamp is awesome as hell.
